SRLC video wins the Barbara Jordan Media Award
SRLC was one of five honorees at the 2009 Barbara Jordan Media Awards luncheon held at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday, June 12, 2009. The center's new video, "Changing Children's Lives," received an award from the Texas Governor's Commission on People with Disabilities.
The Barbara Jordan Bronze Medallion recognizes those whose communications efforts encourage accurate and progressive portrayal of people with disabilities. SRLC board member, Jim Caldwell, submitted the video which features students from our classes and their parents, therapists in training, and Qualified Instructors. In addition to briefly describing the characteristics of dyslexia and providing an overview of the center's programs and services, the video highlighted the parents' and students' comments about the impact the program has had on their lives.
Alice Marsel, Director of Education, Steve Mims, video director and co-producer, Patrick Peyton, co-producer, and SRLC board member Dr. Robert Northcutt and his wife represented the center at the awards ceremony. This inspirational, award winning video underwritten by Masons and Tarrytown United Methodist Church members, is available in the SRLC office or by clicking here.
