Welcome to the Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin!

We focus on the evaluation and treatment of dyslexia in children in Austin and Central Texas by providing dyslexia evaluations and free effective instruction to children. The Scottish Rite Learning Center also offers nationally accredited, comprehensive dyslexia therapist training to educators.

The Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin offers training with a proven research-based, multi-sensory approach for learning the basic language skills of reading, writing, and spelling to children at no cost to the families. The center also provides seminars, workshops and resources for educators and parental consultation.

Workshops and Events
  • Pre-Flight:  An Introduction for young students to Take Flight: A Compresenhive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia.  February 9th through May 6th  Early Intervention for Kindergarten through 2nd graders at risk for or diagnosed with Dyslexia.  Developed by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, this program is designed to introduce young students to the components of literacy associated with future reading success.   Click here for an application.  Click here for more information.
  • Public School Services for Children with Dyslexia: Focus on the Teacher's Role   February 10th  Presented by Bonnie Garza.  Presentation  discussion topics with a focus on teacher's role:  What the law says about service to students with dyslexia; The pros and cons and differences/options of services available to students with dyslexia; 504 services and special education services; and Implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) services. Click here for more information.
  • Join Club Dyslexia!  A support group for children with Dyslexia. Club Dyslexia is to encourage coping, support and social skills for children with language-based disabilities; to help realize they are not the only ones who struggle to read; to help improve children's self-esteem and build on strengths; and to help childen learn to manage Dyslexia and advocate for themselves.  Two age groups:  Children ages 8-10 and 11-13.  Eight sessions,  February 11, 2010 - April 8, 2010,  Presented by Dr. Jill Chrisman.  Click here for an application.  Click here for more information.
  • Preflight:  For Take Flight Graduates ONLY February 27th Presented  by Janet Flory, CALT, QI and Director of the Scottish Rite Learning Center of South Texas, in San Antonio.  This workshop address three major components of reading instruction: Alphabet, Phonological Awareness, and Reading for more information.  Click here for more information.
  • Barnes & Noble Bookfair:  March 31, 2010  - Events begin at 5:30 pm.  Click here for the Scottish Rite Learning Center voucher.  It can be presented at any Barnes & Noble in the United States from March 31 through April 6, 2010, and Scottish Rite Learning Center will get a portion of the sale.
  • Summer FUNdamentals Language Learning Camp! For 5, 6, and 7 year olds showing signs of: delayed oral language, difficulty learning the alphabet, weak decoding skills, poor sound symbol recognition, and inadequate vocabulary development.  For 8 to 12 year olds who need on-going support in: reading and decoding skills, comprehensin and fluency, vocabulary development, written expression, and spelling strategies.  Click here for more information.   Session One:  June 7-18, Session Two:  June 21-July 2, Session Three:  August 2-13.  Click here for 5-7 years old application.  Click here for 8-12 year old application.
